Avantika is the latest actress to join the group of female performers with Indian ties, which also includes Ambika Mod, Simone Ashely (Bridgerton), and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Citadel).
According to Indian-American performer Avantika, who plays Karen Shetty in the newest version of the hit adolescent comedy “Mean Girls,” it was long overdue for South Asian women, especially those of Indian descent, to take center stage in international films like “Bridgerton” and “One Day.”
The 19-year-old, who was born in California to an Indian family, has performed in plays before. The Telugu film “Brahmotsavam” from 2016 marked Avantika’s feature film debut.

The list of female actors with Indian ties that include Priyanka Chopra Jonas (“Citadel”), Simone Ashely (“Bridgerton”), and Ambika Mod (“One Day”) keeps growing as Avantika’s name appears on it.
I think it’s fantastic that Indian women have been able to sort of shine in Hollywood, and I’m honored to be a part of this heritage,” she continued. Films like “Matilda” and “3 Idiots,” which she grew up watching and found to be a moving depiction of the human condition, fueled Avantika’s passion for movies.
