The Indian Premier League is set to take center stage with its 17th edition, with reigning champions Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22. The lucrative league began in 2008, and as a result, numerous countries began organizing their own franchise T20 events. Pakistan also launched their T20 league tournament in 2016, the Pakistan Super League, which was a huge success in the country.
Islamabad United won the PSL 2024 title on Monday, defeating Multan Sultans in the final. They won the title for the third time. The winners got a prize of 14,00,00,000 Pakistani rupees (about INR 4.13 crore), while the runners-up, Multan Sultans, received ₹5,60,00,000 (approximately INR 1.65 crore).
However, the recently crowned Women’s Premier League 2024 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru earned more money than the PSL winners. Smriti Mandhana and Co. beat Delhi Capitals in the summit clash to clinch their maiden title and bagged INR 6 crore. Delhi Capitals, who finished runners-up for the second straight year, went home with INR 3 crore.
Meanwhile, the Indian Premier League remains the largest franchise league tournament, with a prize of INR 20 crore for the winning club, Chennai Super Kings, from last season. Meanwhile, the IPL runners-up from previous season, the Gujarat Titans (INR 13 crore), received more than three times as much as a PSL champion.
