Elon Musk has a history of expressing his opinions on a wide range of subjects, including Apple’s plans for automobiles. I can’t, however, give you a precise quote in the absence of more context or a recent comment from him. Musk has said in the past that he believed Apple’s strategy for electric cars underestimated the difficulty of producing automobiles. He has also implied that, even for a business with Apple’s resources and experience, it’s a difficult field to break into. I can dig up more current statements or provide more background if that would be of interest.
(Reuters) – February 27 Ten years after the iPhone manufacturer started the project, Apple (AAPL.O), opened a new tab has canceled work on its electric automobile, a source familiar with the subject told Reuters on Tuesday.
With this action, a plan that would have assisted Apple in entering a new market and maybe duplicating the success of the iPhone is now closed.
The project’s life has been marked by patchy progress, and now it is coming to an end as major manufacturers reduce their investments in electric vehicles, the demand for which has fallen dramatically.
